But I do believe I am on the way to a TOTALLY pain free existence by following Mircea's suggestions - stretching exercises and other alternative therapies (Yoga/Acupuncture/Osteopathy) as time and $$ permit.
There is much more I have learned from these sessions with Mircea - from basics on proper breathing, walking, hip movement to more advanced exercises in not allowing my brain to tighten and constrict the muscles - to be consciously aware and learn to control the stress that causes the spasms in my lower back. Physically (and in some instances emotionally) it was like being released - free to move, bend, stretch in ways that I never could before. Sweeping away decades of stress, gravity and locked tissue was a very empowering notion to me. My hip/pelvic and lower back regions were areas we spent a lot of extra time on to increase movement - as that was where most of my pain was centered. My body had lost it's 'fluidity' over the years and regaining the flexibility and movement was astonishing. By the fourth session with Mircea I was a believer - that these sessions were actually helping to alleviate my long standing pain. It's a learning process - for your tissue, muscles, nervous system, etc. There can also be residual pain between sessions as tissue that has been released is re-learning a new posture/stance/etc. Note there is some pain involved when you are releasing decades old constricted tissues but we came to an understanding that when it was getting too intense, he would gently back off to an appropriate pressure. I was amazed at the connective points (fascia) that had been locked up for years (decades in some instances) and the skill with which Mircea was able to work on the affected areas and release the knots and tension. knee to foot, thigh to knee, pelvic region, lower back, spine, stomach/chest, shoulders, arms, neck, etc. The treatments start with the base - grounding (your feet) and then works up your body/torso from there. The best way to learn about the process is to research it at Each "Rolfing" session focuses and builds upon the prior session(s). After some coaxing, I decided to pursue the process - 90 minutes for 10 sessions with him.
Plus I was concerned about the financial commitment of enrolling in the sessions. I was very hesitant at first since I knew it could be physically painful and was unsure of the final results. He suggested I explore "Rolfing" - research, learn and discuss with him what some of the possibilities might be to relieve my pain, poor posture and discomfort. For decades I have experienced lower back pain and worked with my therapist Mircea on alleviating some of the pain and discomfort. My initial visits starting in April 2014 at One Spirit were focused on general massage.
